Aimee's Gift

A couple of weeks ago one of my blog friends, Aimee of 'The Daily Apron' had a great Valentines Day giveaway, and I was the lucky winner!  So, I've been patiently waiting for my package to arrive; don't you just love it when you know something is coming, but you don't know just when!  Anyway, earlier today when I went to look out my front door at the sunshine that is trying to peek out from behind the clouds, I happened to look down and there was a box sitting in front of the door.  For me????  Here's what I found!

A box decorated all over with pretty pink and red hearts and other valentines type stickers.  Very sweet!  So, I took it inside and opened it.

And here's what was inside . . .

A pack of valentines stickers - a little something extra Aimee said, and . . .

a bag of heart shaped ring pops, a box of Trader Joe's baking ccoa, two boxes of Trader Joe's instant pudding - one chocolate and one vanilla, and . . .

a box of Daisy Go Round Girl Scout cookies (hmmm, chocolate pudding, a couple of cookies, some cool whip - can you say dessert!).  There was also . . .

a cotton candy flavored lip smacker and a bunch of valentines static cling window decorations.  Here's a look at 'almost' everything . . .

She even used some very pretty valentines ribbon and gold foil hearts that will most definitely make it into my cardmaking stash!   And yes, I am holding out on you! There was also this . . .

The most precious apron - hand made by Aimee - in pinks and chocolates, with the most precious gathered pocket and a heart shaped button!  It is gorgeous, and it's very well made, and if you know me at all, you know I collect aprons, so now this one will be a very special addition to my collection!

Aimee, for a good while now you have encouraged me with your sweet comments on my blog, and you have no idea how much it means to me!  Now I have a 'piece' of you and your huge heart here to remind me of my sweet blogging friend across on the other side of the country.  You are a blessing, thank you from the bottom of my heart!  Becky

Apron Memories "Not a Contest" Giveaway

I've loved aprons for as long as I can remember. I used to beg my mother to let me play with her 'Sunday Best' aprons from my childhood in the 50's and 60's. One of my first real sewing projects was a gold and cream gingham apron. And over the years I've collected a few. Some new, some vintage. And then when I found Blogdom I realized I was far from being the only apron-a-holic!

EllynAnne Geisel has taken apron collecting to a world class level, and has even written books about them. Her latest book - The Kitchen Linens Book - has just hit the news stands, and to celebrate she is having a mega giveaway. But you have to do something special to enter! You have to make something new from something old around the house, and tell about it on your blog. Here's what I made >>>

I've had this doilie of my grandmothers for years, and wanted to do something with it, but never got around to it! It only had the embroidery and lace on one half of it, so I folded it over, sewed up the three sides, and made a pretty pillow from it.

I don't know if my grandmother "Mama Cliffie" did the embroidery, or someone else in the family, but she must have cherished it, because, although obviously old, it as in pretty good condition.

I embellished it with an old vintage brooch that had been hers,

and attached a multicolored organza bow and green button.

This is going to go into our guest room, also known as 'The Grandmothers Room' as a little decoration for the bed.

Oh, and if you are curious, the fabric underneath the pillow is a vintage chicken feed sack from our chicken house. It burned down in February of 1958, a few weeks before my 6th birthday. I have several of these treasures, and that is what they are to me, treasured pieces of my childhood. You can read about that HERE on a post I did a while back.

Thanks for visiting, and wish me luck. I'd love to win one of those incredible prize packages more than you can imagine! Blessings folks, Becky

An Apron Giveaway You Say???

YES! This neat blog I just found called "Maple Lane" is giving away a gorgeous apron (red with white polka dots!) and I'm entering - how about you??? Now I have quite a collection of vintage and newer aprons, and this one would look just precious on the rooster rack in my farmhouse kitchen with lots of red, mustard yellow, blue and white. Here's pic of what's on it now >>>

The yellow one at far left is one I bought at the "Farm Chicks" booth at the 2007 Country Living Fair in Ohio. The red sunbonnet one, and the two bibbed ones that are barely visiblewere in a box lot of linens I bought at Freehome Auction for a couple of dollars a few years ago. The pink one came from an antique store, I think in Warm Springs,GA, and the patchwork one on far right is from a yard sale just up the road from a lady who was in a square dancing group! It is hand pieced.

Now these two pics are of the 'laundry line' in our laundry 'closet'. The ceiling in there was high, and the shelf is a great place for storage, but the closet needed a little something, so I hung some of my aprons to look like a line of laundry. Please excuse the mess - this IS after all a working/functional (and busy right now) laundry room!

The blue cross stitched one was a gift from a precious little old lady at our former church one Christmas. She decided the preschool Sunday School teachers didn't get enough appreciation, and gave several of us a goodie bag of her treasures. I still love Miss Lucy Nell and her sister Miss Floy, even though I haven't seen them in over 5 years. I couldn't tell you where got the pink to the right, but the blue two layered one was a gift from my friend, Fay. And the pink bag was a laundry bag that was also in the box lot I bought at the auction. Oh, and see - I told you this is a real working laundry!

The orange checked apron you can barely see for the boxes is one I bought at a yard sale for next to nothing, and the blue gingham one at far right I've had so long I can't remember where it came from any more.

So, as you can see, I love, LOVE aprons, and would love to win that sassy one over at Maple Lane. Everyone have a great day! Blessings, Becky
